How is Bodrum correlated with ancient Greek history?

Located in southwestern Turkey, Bodrum has a rich history dating back to antiquity and has many ties to ancient Greece. Known as Halicarnassus in the Classical period, it was an important center of trade and culture in the 6th century BC. It was also the strategic center of the Persian Empire, later conquered by Alexander the Great in 334 BC. The city's ancient ruins include the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the Mausoleum of Mausolus, a tomb built for King Mausolus of the Kingdom of Caria and his wife, the famous warrior queen Artemisia. Later, the city was ruled by the Roman Empire and played an important role in the Byzantine Empire, but was occupied by the Ottoman Turks in 1402. During World War II, it was occupied by the Germans, but was liberated by Allied forces in 1944. Today, Bodrum is a popular tourist destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
